Biography & Early Wealth Journey

Vanessa Trump, born Vanessa Pergolizzi and later known as Vanessa Haydon, became nationally known through her marriage to Donald Trump Jr. The couple married in 2005, had five children, and divorced in 2018. Before her marriage, Vanessa worked professionally as a model, appeared briefly in the film "Something's Gotta Give," and moved in prominent Manhattan social circles. She later launched a handbag company called La Poshett.

A significant portion of Vanessa's fortune came from an investment made by her stepfather, attorney Charles Haydon, in the commercial business behind Rao's Homemade pasta sauce. Haydon reportedly invested approximately $1 million in 1992 for a 30% interest. Following his death, his stake passed to Vanessa and her mother. When Rao's Specialty Foods was reportedly sold for $415 million in 2017, the family's interest generated an enormous windfall.

Vanessa returned to the headlines in 2025 when Tiger Woods publicly confirmed that they were in a relationship. In 2026, she also publicly disclosed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and was undergoing treatment.

Early Life and Family

Primary Income Streams & Multi-Million Contracts

Vanessa Kay Pergolizzi was born on December 18, 1977, in New York City. She was raised on Manhattan's Upper East Side alongside her sister, Veronika.

Her mother, Bonnie Kay Haydon, operated the modeling agency Kay Models. Vanessa later adopted the surname Haydon from her stepfather, Charles Haydon, a prominent New York attorney. Charles is sometimes incorrectly described as Vanessa's biological father.

Vanessa's maternal grandfather was Danish jazz musician Kai Ewans. Vanessa later named her eldest daughter after him.

She attended The Dwight School in Manhattan, where she played tennis, and later studied psychology at Marymount Manhattan College.

Modeling and Business Career

Vanessa began modeling while she was young, benefiting from her mother's connections to the industry. During her teens and 20s, she worked professionally as Vanessa Haydon and was represented at various points by major agencies including Wilhelmina and Next Model Management.

Her modeling career included runway work and international fashion events. In 1998, she appeared at Australian Fashion Week.

Vanessa also had a small role in the 2003 romantic comedy "Something's Gotta Give," starring Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton.

Wealth Trajectory & Future Earnings Projections

In 2003, Vanessa and her sister Veronika opened a Manhattan nightclub called Sessa. Several years later, Vanessa moved into fashion accessories with La Poshett, a handbag line she operated from roughly 2010 through 2013.

Relationships Before Donald Trump Jr.

Before her marriage, Vanessa was linked to several high-profile men. In 1998, she was briefly romantically linked to Leonardo DiCaprio, although accounts differed over how serious the relationship was.

She subsequently had a more substantial relationship with Saudi Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud, the son of longtime Saudi diplomat Bandar bin Sultan. The two reportedly dated from 1998 until 2001 and discussed marriage. Their relationship ended after the September 11 attacks, when Khalid returned to Saudi Arabia.

Marriage to Donald Trump Jr.

Vanessa met Donald Trump Jr. at a fashion event in 2003 after his father, Donald Trump, introduced them. According to Vanessa, the elder Trump actually introduced them twice at the same event because he had forgotten about the first introduction.

They encountered each other again several weeks later at a party and began dating.

Donald Jr. proposed in November 2004 with a diamond engagement ring valued at approximately $100,000. The proposal became a minor tabloid sensation because the jeweler provided the ring in exchange for Donald Jr. staging the engagement outside its Short Hills, New Jersey, store while photographers documented the event.

Vanessa and Donald Jr. married on November 12, 2005, at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.

They went on to have five children: Kai, Donald III, Tristan, Spencer, and Chloe. Their eldest daughter, Kai Trump, developed into a competitive golfer and social-media personality and began playing collegiate golf at the University of Miami in 2026.

Vanessa filed for an uncontested divorce in March 2018 after approximately 12 years of marriage. The couple resolved their custody issues that year, and their divorce was finalized by the end of 2018. They subsequently maintained an amicable co-parenting relationship.

Rao's Pasta Sauce Fortune

The most important source of Vanessa Trump's independent wealth came from a remarkably successful family investment in pasta sauce.

The famous East Harlem restaurant Rao's opened in 1896, but the Rao's Homemade packaged-food business was established nearly a century later. In 1992, the people behind Rao's wanted to commercialize the restaurant's sauces and needed outside capital.

Vanessa's stepfather, Charles Haydon, reportedly invested approximately $1 million in Rao's Specialty Foods. In return, he received a reported 30% ownership stake in the packaged-food company. His interest was in the commercial sauce business, not the Rao's restaurant itself.

Charles died in 1995. His 30% interest was reportedly divided equally between Vanessa and her mother, leaving each with an approximately 15% stake.

In 2017, Sovos Brands acquired Rao's Specialty Foods. Although the parties did not publicly disclose the financial terms, contemporary reports placed the transaction value at approximately $415 million.

At that valuation, a 30% family stake would have been worth approximately $124.5 million before taxes and any transaction adjustments. If Vanessa and her mother still owned equal halves of that stake at the time of the sale, Vanessa's gross portion would have been approximately $62 million before taxes.

The timing attracted attention during Vanessa's divorce the following year. Donald Jr.'s attorneys filed a request seeking disclosure of Vanessa's finances as part of the divorce proceeding shortly after reports of the Rao's windfall became public.

Rao's continued growing dramatically after the Haydon family's exit. Sovos later became a publicly traded company, and Campbell Soup completed its acquisition of the entire Sovos business in 2024 in a transaction valued at more than $2 billion.

Relationship With Tiger Woods

Vanessa largely stayed out of the celebrity spotlight following her divorce while raising her children in Florida.

In early 2025, reports emerged that she was dating Tiger Woods. The connection made sense geographically and socially: both lived in the Palm Beach area, and their children were involved in competitive junior golf.

Woods put an end to the speculation in March 2025 when he publicly confirmed the relationship on Instagram, posting photographs of the couple together and writing that life was better with Vanessa by his side.

The relationship continued through 2026. Vanessa was frequently seen at golf events with Woods and their families, and she accompanied him to a Florida court appearance in September 2026.

Breast Cancer Diagnosis

In May 2026, Vanessa announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

She said she had undergone a medical procedure and was working with her doctors on a treatment plan. Vanessa said she remained focused on her recovery with the support of her children, family, and those closest to her and asked for privacy while undergoing treatment.

She continued making public appearances during her recovery, including supporting Kai as her daughter prepared to begin college and accompanying Woods to events in Florida.
