Early Life
Titus Welliver was born on March 12, 1962, in New Haven, Connecticut. His mother, Norma, was a fashion illustrator, and his father, Neil Welliver, was a respected landscape painter and art professor at Yale University who later became dean of the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Fine Art.
Welliver grew up in an artistic household, but his childhood was also shaped by loss. He had three siblings, all of whom died before him: an older brother named Silas, a younger brother named Eli, and a younger sister named Ashley. As a young adult, Welliver moved to New York City and studied drama at New York University, preparing for a career that would eventually span stage, film, television, voice work, and audiobooks.

From 1997 to 1998, Welliver had a main role on the CBS ensemble police drama "Brooklyn South." He continued working steadily throughout the decade, appearing on "Murder One," "Nash Bridges," "The Practice," and "Star Trek: Voyager." Bosch
Wealth Trajectory & Future Earnings Projections
Welliver landed the signature role of his career when he was cast as Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch in Amazon's "Bosch," based on Michael Connelly's bestselling detective novels. The series premiered in 2014 and starred Welliver as a driven, haunted Los Angeles homicide detective with a strong moral code and a deep distrust of bureaucracy.
"Bosch" became one of Amazon's most successful original dramas and ran for seven seasons, ending in 2021. Welliver's performance was widely praised by fans of the books and viewers who came to the character through the show. After "Bosch" ended, he continued the role in "Bosch: Legacy," which followed Harry Bosch after his retirement from the LAPD as he worked as a private investigator.
"Bosch: Legacy" ran for three seasons, concluding in 2025. Welliver also reprised Harry Bosch in "Ballard," the Prime Video spinoff starring Maggie Q as detective Renée Ballard. Across "Bosch," "Bosch: Legacy," and "Ballard," Welliver became inseparable from the character and helped anchor one of the most durable crime franchises in streaming television.
Film Career
Welliver made his film debut in 1990 with appearances in "Navy SEALs" and "The Lost Capone." He followed with roles in "The Doors," "Mobsters," "Zero Tolerance," "Born to Be Wild," and "Mulholland Falls."
In the 2000s and 2010s, he appeared in crime films, dramas, and thrillers including "Cement," "Once in the Life," "Twisted," "Assault on Precinct 13," "The Narrows," "The Human Contract," "Man on a Ledge," "Promised Land," "Transformers: Age of Extinction," "Poker Night," and "Shaft."
Welliver has had a particularly strong creative connection with Ben Affleck. He appeared in Affleck's directorial debut "Gone Baby Gone," then reunited with him for "The Town," the Best Picture-winning "Argo," and "Live by Night."
Audiobooks and Voice Work
Welliver's distinctive voice has also made him a sought-after narrator. He has narrated several audiobooks, including entries in Michael Connelly's "Bosch" series such as "The Crossing" and "The Wrong Side of Goodbye." He has also narrated Robert B. Parker's Western novels, including "Appaloosa," "Brimstone," and "Ironhorse."
His audiobook work is a natural extension of his screen persona, especially with Connelly's books, where audiences already strongly associate him with Harry Bosch.
Personal Life
Welliver has been married several times. His first marriage, to Heather Wielandt, ended in divorce in 1989. He married talent agent Dani Sexton in 1992, and they separated in 1996. In 1998, he married actress Joanna Heimbold, with whom he had two sons before their divorce in 2004.
Welliver later married film producer Elizabeth W. Alexander, with whom he had a daughter. Alexander died of breast cancer in 2012. He subsequently married Dutch fashion consultant and former model Jose Stemkens, though the couple later separated.

In April 2021, Titus paid $4 million for a 5.8-acre property featuring a 6,000-square-foot home in Topanga, California. He listed this home for sale in May 2026 for $7.75 million.
