Biography & Early Wealth Journey
Tina O'Brien is best known for playing Sarah Platt on the long-running ITV soap opera "Coronation Street," a role she first took over as a teenager in 1999. Within a year, she became one of the show's breakout young stars through a groundbreaking storyline in which 13-year-old Sarah became pregnant and gave birth to daughter Bethany. The storyline earned O'Brien a National Television Award for Most Popular Newcomer and helped establish Sarah as a central member of the Platt family.
O'Brien spent most of the 2000s on "Coronation Street" before leaving to pursue other work. During her years away from Weatherfield, she appeared in "Waterloo Road," "The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister," "Accused," "Call the Midwife," "Casualty," and "Doctors," and competed on "Strictly Come Dancing." She returned to "Coronation Street" in 2015 and once again became a regular part of the ensemble, appearing in major storylines involving relationships, motherhood, mental health, murder, and the complicated Platt family.
Outside acting, O'Brien co-founded The Drama MOB, a Manchester-area drama school and talent agency that trains young performers. One of its students was "Adolescence" breakout star Owen Cooper.

O'Brien joined "Coronation Street" in 1999 as Sarah-Louise Platt, taking over a character who had existed on the soap since the 1980s.
Sarah is the daughter of Gail Platt and part of one of the show's most important families. O'Brien joined a cast that included longtime stars such as William Roache and would later work alongside generations of younger "Corrie" performers including Helen Flanagan, Nikki Sanderson, and Antony Cotton.
O'Brien became a major figure on the show almost immediately. In 2000, Sarah discovered that she was pregnant at just 13 years old. The storyline followed the shock experienced by Sarah and her family, her decision to continue the pregnancy, and the birth of her daughter Bethany.
At the time, teenage pregnancy was a highly unusual subject for a prime-time British soap to explore through such a young character. The storyline attracted enormous attention and became one of the defining "Coronation Street" plots of the era.
Wealth Trajectory & Future Earnings Projections
O'Brien won the National Television Award for Most Popular Newcomer in 2000 as well as the TV Quick Award for Best Soap Newcomer. The teenage-pregnancy plot also won the British Soap Award for Best Storyline, shared with Helen Worth, who played Sarah's mother, Gail.

Sarah Platt Storylines
As O'Brien grew up on screen, Sarah moved from teenage motherhood into adult relationships and increasingly dramatic storylines.
Sarah became involved with Todd Grimshaw, who eventually came out as gay, producing another of the soap's most discussed storylines. She later had a lengthy relationship with Todd's brother Jason Grimshaw, played by Ryan Thomas.
Sarah also endured the chaos surrounding her stepfather Richard Hillman, one of "Coronation Street's" most famous villains, and survived numerous family crises involving her brothers Nick and David.
O'Brien remained a fixture on the program for most of the 2000s before deciding to leave the regular cast and pursue other acting opportunities.
Career Away from "Coronation Street"
O'Brien broadened her résumé considerably during her years away from Weatherfield.
In 2009, she appeared in the ITV crime drama "Blue Murder." The following year brought several prominent roles, including Miss Browne in the period drama "The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister" and Leanne Lang in an episode of Jimmy McGovern's acclaimed anthology series "Accused."
Her biggest post-"Coronation Street" television role came in the BBC school drama "Waterloo Road." O'Brien played Bex Fisher, the troubled eldest daughter of headteacher Karen Fisher, portrayed by Amanda Burton.
The role allowed O'Brien to step away from the character she had played since her teens and demonstrate a more mature dramatic range.
She subsequently appeared in "Casualty," "Call the Midwife," "Crime Stories," and "Doctors."
"Strictly Come Dancing"
In 2010, O'Brien competed on the eighth series of BBC's "Strictly Come Dancing."
She was partnered with professional dancer Jared Murillo. O'Brien received a bye during one week after becoming ill and ultimately exited the competition following an Argentine tango.
She subsequently took part in the "Strictly Come Dancing" live tour.
O'Brien has also performed on stage, including playing Snow White in a Manchester Opera House pantomime.
Return to "Coronation Street"
After several years away, O'Brien returned to "Coronation Street" in 2015.
Sarah came back to Weatherfield with daughter Bethany, and the character quickly became involved in another run of major storylines. One of the most significant centered on Callum Logan, a violent drug dealer who became involved with Sarah's family. After Callum was killed by Kylie Platt, Sarah struggled with the psychological consequences of knowing the truth about his death.
O'Brien's performance during Sarah's resulting mental-health crisis earned her a nomination for Best Female Dramatic Performance at the 2016 British Soap Awards.
Later storylines involved Sarah's relationships with Gary Windass and Adam Barlow, her professional life, pregnancy, marital problems, and continued conflicts within the Platt family.
By remaining with the program for two separate long stretches, O'Brien became one of the actresses most closely associated with the modern era of "Coronation Street." Her tenure ultimately stretched across several generations of cast members, including the period when Michelle Keegan became one of the show's biggest breakout stars.
The Drama MOB
O'Brien expanded beyond acting in 2013 when she and drama teacher Esther Morgan founded The Drama MOB in Manchester.
The business combines a drama school with a talent-management agency. Its classes train children and teenagers in acting, improvisation, script work, confidence, and audition technique, while the management division represents young performers for television, film, commercials, and other professional work.
O'Brien has remained actively involved as a director of the company and has taught students herself. Her experience on a major television production also allows her to advise young actors navigating auditions and professional sets.
The Drama MOB received significant attention after former student Owen Cooper was cast as Jamie Miller in the Netflix series "Adolescence." Cooper had trained at the school before landing his first professional acting role, which turned him into an international breakout star and eventually made him the youngest male actor to win an Emmy in an acting category.
The success highlighted a second side of O'Brien's career: helping develop young performers from northern England rather than concentrating solely on her own acting work.
Awards and Recognition
O'Brien's earliest major awards came almost immediately after joining "Coronation Street."
In 2000, she won the National Television Award for Most Popular Newcomer and the TV Quick Award for Best Soap Newcomer. The Sarah Platt teenage-pregnancy storyline also won the British Soap Award for Best Storyline.
She subsequently received numerous soap-award nominations, including nominations for Best Actress, Sexiest Female, Best Couple, and Best Dramatic Performance.
In 2016, her portrayal of Sarah's mental-health breakdown following Callum Logan's death earned her a British Soap Award nomination for Best Female Dramatic Performance. She was later nominated for Best Leading Performer at the British Soap Awards.
Relationship with Ryan Thomas
O'Brien began dating her "Coronation Street" co-star Ryan Thomas in 2003. Thomas played Jason Grimshaw, who also became one of Sarah Platt's major romantic partners on the show.
The couple welcomed a daughter, Scarlett Jacqueline Thomas, in October 2008. O'Brien and Thomas ended their relationship in 2009.
Scarlett later followed her parents into acting. She joined the cast of "Waterloo Road," the same BBC series in which O'Brien had previously appeared, playing Izzy Charles.
Marriage and Family
O'Brien later began a relationship with Adam Crofts, a business developer. They welcomed a son, Beau, in 2014 and became engaged in 2016.
O'Brien and Crofts married on New Year's Eve 2018. Their relationship later ended, with their separation becoming public in 2025.
O'Brien is the mother of two children and has spoken frequently about balancing parenthood with the demanding production schedule of a continuing television drama.
Career Earnings
The majority of O'Brien's professional income has come from television acting, particularly her long tenure on "Coronation Street."
Unlike American network sitcom stars, British soap actors generally earn salaries based on contractual appearance guarantees and episode fees rather than collecting large syndication royalties. O'Brien's decades of regular employment on one of Britain's most-watched continuing dramas nevertheless provide an unusually stable source of acting income.
She has supplemented that work through other television roles, reality television, live performances, public appearances, and her ownership involvement in The Drama MOB.
Her combination of more than two decades of soap earnings and ownership of an ongoing drama-school and talent-management business provides the foundation for her estimated $6 million net worth.
