Riding for UAE Team Emirates XRG, Tadej Pogačar is a five-time Tour de France champion and one of the most accomplished all-around cyclists in the history of the sport. In 2024, he achieved the Triple Crown of Cycling by winning the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France, and the UCI Road World Championships in the same season. Early Life and Education

Tadej Pogačar was born on September 21, 1998, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, to Marjeta and Mirko Pogačar. He is the third of four siblings and was raised in Klanec, north of Ljubljana.

Junior Career

At the age of nine, Pogačar followed his older brother Tilen into cycling by joining the Rog-Ljubljana cycling club. He rode for the team from 2017 to 2018. During the latter year, Pogačar represented the Slovenian national team and won the Tour de l'Avenir, one of the most prestigious stage races for cyclists under the age of 23.

UAE Team Emirates XRG

Pogačar joined UAE Team Emirates for the 2019 season. He earned his first victory with the team at the Volta ao Algarve. A few months later, he became the youngest cyclist ever to win a UCI WorldTour stage race when he claimed the Tour of California. During the summer of 2019, Pogačar made his Grand Tour debut at the Vuelta a España, where he won three stages, finished third overall, and captured the young rider classification.

Pogačar began the 2020 season by winning the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana. He made his Tour de France debut later that year and won three stages, including the decisive individual time trial on the penultimate day. Pogačar overtook fellow Slovenian Primož Roglič to win the race, becoming the first Slovenian Tour de France champion and one of the youngest winners in the event's history.

Pogačar began the 2022 season by successfully defending his UAE Tour title. He also repeated as champion of Tirreno-Adriatico and won the Strade Bianche. In his third Tour de France, Pogačar fought a difficult battle with Jonas Vingegaard and ultimately finished second to the Danish cyclist. Later in the year, he won the GP Montréal, the Tre Valli Varesine, and his second consecutive Il Lombardia. Pogačar finished the 2022 season with 16 victories, the most of any rider in the men's peloton.

By winning the Giro, Tour, and World Championships in the same year, Pogačar became only the third male cyclist to complete the Triple Crown of Cycling in a single season. He ended 2024 by winning his fourth consecutive Il Lombardia, becoming the first rider in more than 75 years to win the race four times.

Pogačar continued his dominance in 2025 with victories at the UAE Tour, Tour of Flanders, La Flèche Wallonne, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and Critérium du Dauphiné. In July, he won four stages of the Tour de France and defeated Vingegaard for the second consecutive year to claim his fourth career Tour championship.

In July 2026, Pogačar won his fifth Tour de France title, tying the all-time record held by Eddy Merckx, Miguel Indurain, Jacques Anquetil, and Bernard Hinault. He won five stages during the race and finished 6 minutes and 26 seconds ahead of second-place Remco Evenepoel. Pogačar's UAE Team Emirates XRG teammate Isaac Del Toro finished third in his Tour debut. The five stage victories increased Pogačar's career Tour de France total to 26.

Pogačar entered the final stage in Paris with an insurmountable lead and officially secured the championship after finishing safely on the Champs-Élysées. He attempted to win the stage after three climbs through Montmartre, but Mathieu van der Poel held off the chasing riders to take the victory. At 27 years old, Pogačar became the youngest rider to reach five Tour de France championships.

Personal Life

In 2021, Pogačar became engaged to fellow Slovenian professional cyclist Urška Žigart. The couple lives together in Monaco.
