Biography & Early Wealth Journey
Roddy Ricch broke into the mainstream with the 2018 single "Die Young" before becoming one of hip-hop's biggest stars with his 2019 debut album, "Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial." The album reached #1 on the Billboard 200, while its breakout single, "The Box," spent 11 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and was later certified Diamond in the United States. Ricch also earned his first Grammy Award for his contribution to Nipsey Hussle's "Racks in the Middle" and scored another #1 hit as a featured artist on DaBaby's "Rockstar."
At the height of his breakthrough, Roddy said he earned approximately $20 million in 2020 alone. Rather than spending all of that windfall on luxury purchases, he said he began investing some of his money in commercial real estate in his hometown of Compton. His subsequent releases include "Live Life Fast," "Feed Tha Streets III," and a series of singles associated with his long-developing third studio album, "The Navy Album."
Early Life
Roddy Ricch was born Rodrick Wayne Moore Jr. on October 22, 1998, in Compton, California. He spent portions of his childhood in Compton and Atlanta and attended Carson Senior High School and Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets.
Primary Income Streams & Multi-Million Contracts
Music became a serious interest during his teenage years. Ricch began rapping when he was young and was making beats by age 16. His eventual sound blended melodic singing with West Coast hip-hop, trap, and Southern influences, allowing him to move easily between rapping and singing.
Ricch has cited artists including Kendrick Lamar, Future, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, and Speaker Knockerz among his musical influences.
"Feed Tha Streets" and "Die Young"
Ricch released his debut mixtape, "Feed Tha Streets," in November 2017. The project began building his reputation in Southern California and attracted attention from established West Coast artists.

His national breakthrough arrived the following year with "Die Young." Ricch wrote the song after the death of a childhood friend, and its combination of mournful melody and street-focused lyrics helped establish the vocal style that would become his trademark. The track eventually reached the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified multi-platinum.
In November 2018, Ricch released "Feed Tha Streets II." The mixtape included "Die Young" and "Every Season" and reached #67 on the Billboard 200.
During this period, Nipsey Hussle became an important supporter and mentor. Ricch later appeared with Hit-Boy on Nipsey's 2019 single "Racks in the Middle." The recording earned all three performers the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 2020, giving Ricch his first Grammy.
"Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial"
Wealth Trajectory & Future Earnings Projections
Ricch's debut studio album, "Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial," was released in December 2019 through Atlantic Records and Bird Vision Entertainment.
The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with 101,000 equivalent album units. It subsequently returned to the top multiple times and ultimately spent four nonconsecutive weeks at #1, an unusually long run for a debut rap album.
The biggest song was "The Box." Initially not one of the album's pre-release singles, the track became a viral phenomenon and climbed to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It remained there for 11 weeks, turning Ricch into one of the dominant new artists of 2020. The song was certified Diamond by the RIAA in December 2021.
The album also produced "High Fashion," featuring Mustard, which reached the Top 20 of the Hot 100.
"Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial" won Album of the Year at the BET Awards, and Ricch received six nominations at the 2021 Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year recognition connected with his biggest releases and collaborations.
"Rockstar" and Collaborations
Ricch's breakthrough coincided with a remarkable run as a featured artist.
He appeared on Mustard's "Ballin'," which reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination. In 2020, he joined DaBaby on "Rockstar." The single spent seven consecutive weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 and became one of the biggest songs of the year.
Other collaborations from the period included Meek Mill's "Letter to Nipsey," NLE Choppa's "Walk Em Down," A Boogie wit da Hoodie's "Numbers," and Pop Smoke's "The Woo," which also featured 50 Cent.
Ricch later appeared on Post Malone's 2022 single "Cooped Up." He has continued appearing as a guest artist while developing his own later projects.
Earnings and Investments
The extraordinary commercial success of 2019 and 2020 produced a rapid increase in Ricch's wealth. Roddy has said that he earned approximately $20 million in 2020 alone, a period when "The Box," "Rockstar," "Ballin'," and "Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial" were all generating significant sales, streaming, and royalty income.
His earnings have come from record sales, streaming royalties, songwriting, featured appearances, touring, merchandise, and other music-related activities. The success of "The Box" was particularly significant: the song spent 11 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later certified Diamond in the United States.
Ricch has said that rather than spending all of his early success on luxury purchases, he began investing some of his money in commercial real estate in Compton. He has also discussed wanting to use those investments and financial-literacy initiatives to create opportunities in the community where he grew up.
The exact size and value of his commercial real estate portfolio have not been publicly disclosed.

"Live Life Fast"
Ricch returned with the single "Late at Night" in June 2021. Produced by Mustard, the song debuted at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100.
His second studio album, "Live Life Fast," arrived in December 2021. The project featured a large guest roster that included Future, 21 Savage, Kodak Black, Lil Baby, Gunna, Takeoff, Ty Dolla $ign, and Jamie Foxx.
"Live Life Fast" debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 with 62,000 equivalent album units, including more than 76 million on-demand streams during its opening week. Although that represented a strong chart debut, the album did not approach the extraordinary commercial performance of "Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial."
Ricch followed with the three-song EP "The Big 3" in June 2022.
"Feed Tha Streets III" and Later Music
In November 2022, Ricch returned to the mixtape series that had launched his career with "Feed Tha Streets III."
The 15-track project included appearances from Lil Durk and Ty Dolla $ign, with singles including "Stop Breathing," "Aston Martin Truck," and "Twin." The mixtape debuted at #14 on the Billboard 200.
Ricch released music less frequently over the next several years. In 2024, he began promoting a third studio album titled "The Navy Album" with the single "Survivor's Remorse." He followed with "911" and "Lonely Road," the latter featuring musician and producer Terrace Martin.
"The Navy Album" went through a lengthy series of delays, with several anticipated release periods passing without the full project arriving. Ricch nevertheless continued releasing individual songs and making guest appearances rather than disappearing from music entirely.
The slower pace represented a significant contrast with the rapid sequence of releases that accompanied his original commercial breakthrough.
Shooting Incident
In February 2021, a shooting occurred during the filming of a music video involving Ricch and rapper 42 Dugg in Atlanta. Three people were injured, while Ricch and 42 Dugg were unharmed.
Rapper OMB Peezy was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. Ricch and 42 Dugg later released the collaboration "4 Da Gang."
Legal Issues
In August 2019, Ricch was arrested in Los Angeles following an alleged domestic dispute with his girlfriend. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office subsequently declined to prosecute the case because of insufficient evidence, and the charges were dropped.
In June 2022, Ricch was arrested while attempting to enter the Governors Ball music festival in New York after authorities said a firearm was found in the vehicle in which he was traveling. He was booked on weapons-related charges and missed his scheduled performance.
The case against Ricch was dismissed the following day, and he was released without the prosecution moving forward.
Style and Influences
Ricch's music combines elements of West Coast hip-hop, trap, R&B, and melodic rap. His voice, often delivered with a raspy tone and unconventional vocal inflections, became one of his most recognizable characteristics.
Unlike rappers who maintain a clear separation between sung hooks and rapped verses, Ricch frequently moves between the two within the same song. That flexibility helped songs such as "The Box," "High Fashion," "Ballin'," and "Rockstar" succeed across both hip-hop and pop audiences.
His influences reflect both sides of that sound. Kendrick Lamar represents Ricch's Compton connection, while Future, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, and Speaker Knockerz helped shape the melodic and Southern elements of his music.
Personal Life
Ricch became a father in 2020. He has generally kept his son and much of his family life away from the center of his public persona.
Fatherhood later became a recurring theme in his music. "Feed Tha Streets III" included the track "Letter to My Son," while his later work increasingly addressed the pressures created by early fame, wealth, responsibility, and the transition from his life in Compton to international celebrity.
Real Estate
In December 2021, Roddy paid $5.6 million for a home in Beverly Hills. The roughly 3,450-square-foot residence sits on close to an acre and includes four bedrooms, five bathrooms, a swimming pool, spa, and extensive outdoor space.
Less than a year after buying the property, Roddy listed the Beverly Hills compound for $5.995 million. After several price reductions, he sold it in 2023 for $4.995 million.
That represented a loss of $605,000 compared with his purchase price before accounting for real estate commissions, taxes, improvements, and other transaction costs.
