He releases music through his own NLE Entertainment in partnership with Warner Records. Beginning in 2025, he also started releasing material under the name NLE The Great while continuing to use the NLE Choppa name.
Early Life
NLE Choppa was born Bryson LaShun Potts on November 1, 2002, in Memphis, Tennessee. He grew up in the Parkway Village area of southeast Memphis and attended Cordova High School.
Primary Income Streams & Multi-Million Contracts
As a teenager, Bryson played basketball and began freestyling with friends. His interest in rap quickly became more serious, and his mother, Angela Potts, began managing his career while he was still in his teens.
He initially performed under the name YNR Choppa before adopting NLE Choppa. NLE originally grew out of "No Love Entertainment," the name of the independent brand and label he developed around his music.
"Shotta Flow"
Choppa began releasing music professionally in 2018, starting with the song "No Love Anthem" and the mixtape "No Love the Takeover." He gained more attention after appearing on "No Chorus Pt. 3," but his breakthrough arrived in January 2019 with "Shotta Flow."

The accompanying video quickly went viral on YouTube, showcasing Choppa's animated dancing and unusually energetic performance style. "Shotta Flow" eventually reached #36 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Platinum certification.
A remix featuring Blueface helped expand the song's audience, and Choppa turned "Shotta Flow" into a continuing franchise. Over the following years, he released numerous sequels, eventually carrying the series through "Shotta Flow 8."
The success generated significant record-label interest. Rather than simply surrendering control to the highest bidder, Choppa maintained his NLE Entertainment imprint and entered into a partnership with Warner Records.

Wealth Trajectory & Future Earnings Projections
Choppa spent the rest of 2019 establishing that "Shotta Flow" was not a one-off viral hit. He released songs including "Capo," "Famous Hoes," "Birdboy," and "Camelot." "Camelot" reached #37 on the Billboard Hot 100.
At the end of 2019, he released his debut EP, "Cottonwood." The project included both the original and remixed versions of "Shotta Flow" as well as "Side."
By that point, Choppa had already become one of the most prominent teenage rappers in the country, building much of his early audience through YouTube and social media rather than traditional radio alone.

"Top Shotta"
NLE Choppa released his debut studio album, "Top Shotta," in August 2020. The album debuted at #10 on the Billboard 200, giving him his first Top 10 album.
"Walk Em Down," featuring Roddy Ricch, became one of Choppa's largest early hits, reaching #38 on the Hot 100. "Camelot" was also included on the album, along with "Narrow Road," featuring Lil Baby.
The album demonstrated Choppa's ability to move between aggressive Memphis-influenced street rap and more melodic records. His combination of viral videos, streaming success, and increasingly high-profile collaborations established him as more than an internet phenomenon.
"From Dark to Light" and "Me vs. Me"
On his 18th birthday in November 2020, Choppa released the mixtape "From Dark to Light." The project represented a noticeable change from much of his earlier music, with lyrics focusing more heavily on spirituality, meditation, personal growth, and positive thinking.
That period also coincided with Choppa becoming increasingly public about his interest in gardening, nutrition, meditation, and holistic wellness. Although his later music returned to many of the aggressive and provocative themes of his earlier work, wellness remained part of his public persona.
In 2022, he released "Me vs. Me." The mixtape included collaborations with Polo G, Young Thug, G Herbo, and Moneybagg Yo. The project reached #14 on the Billboard 200, making it one of the highest-charting releases of his career.
"Cottonwood 2"
Choppa released his second studio album, "Cottonwood 2," in April 2023. The album reached #21 on the Billboard 200 and featured an extensive list of guests, including Lil Wayne, Kevin Gates, Polo G, Duke Deuce, Fivio Foreign, G Herbo, and Rick Ross.
The project's biggest song was "Slut Me Out." Originally released before the album, the track gained momentum through social media and eventually reached #28 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Choppa's highest-charting solo single to that point.
Other songs from the "Cottonwood 2" era included "Do It Again," "Champions," "Ain't Gonna Answer," and "It's Getting Hot." "Do It Again" reached #85 on the Hot 100.
Choppa also appeared on "Angel Pt. 1" from the "Fast X" soundtrack alongside Kodak Black, Jimin, JVKE, and Muni Long. The song reached #65 on the Hot 100.
"Slut Me Out 2" and "SLUT SZN"
Rather than leaving "Slut Me Out" as a standalone hit, Choppa developed it into another recurring series. He released "Slut Me Out 2" in 2024, and although the song did not enter the Billboard Hot 100, it became a significant viral and streaming success.
He followed with multiple alternate versions and sequels, including "Slut Me Out 3," "Country Me Out," and eventually "Slut Me Out 4." The increasingly over-the-top series became one of the most recognizable elements of his catalog.
In September 2024, Choppa released the eight-track project "SLUT SZN." The project also contained "Or What," a collaboration with New York rap collective 41. "Or What" reached #52 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Choppa one of the biggest chart hits of his career.
Another track, "Gang Baby," became a viral success late in 2024 and reached #82 on the Hot 100. Warner Records said Choppa accumulated 12 new Gold and Platinum certifications during 2024 alone.
"PICASSO" and Other Projects
In December 2024, Choppa expanded "SLUT SZN" into the 23-track "PICASSO: SLUFFIN SZN X SLUT SZN." The collection combined the provocative material from "SLUT SZN" with a group of more melodic songs and even holiday music.
Guests included Summer Walker, Yung Bleu, Skilla Baby, and T-Pain.
That year, Choppa also moved further into film and fashion. He co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in the short film "NLE Choppa Presents: The Wash," a comedic project inspired by the 2001 film "The Wash." Lil Wayne and other entertainers made appearances.
He also expanded into fashion collaborations and appeared on the runway for Off-White during New York Fashion Week.
NLE The Great and Later Music
Choppa began experimenting more heavily with his artist identity in 2025, using the additional name NLE The Great on releases including "Messiah (Devil's Diss)," "KO," and "Hello Revenge." Some streaming services credited both NLE The Great and NLE Choppa, effectively connecting the new name to his established catalog rather than treating it as an entirely separate artist.
During 2025, he also teamed with Imagine Dragons for the rock-influenced single "Dare U" and released songs including "444" and "Crescent Moon."
His 2026 output included "Shotta Flow 8," "Set the Record Straight," "Slut Me Out 4," "Light It Up," and "No Contact." Warner continued promoting him under both NLE Choppa and NLE The Great branding.
By that point, Warner Records credited Choppa with more than 10 billion global streams and 25 RIAA-certified releases, demonstrating that his commercial career had extended well beyond his initial teenage breakthrough.
Collaborations
Choppa has collaborated extensively throughout his career. In 2020, he joined Polo G and Stunna 4 Vegas on "Go Stupid," which reached #60 on the Billboard Hot 100.
He has also worked with Blueface, Bhad Bhabie, Birdman, Juvenile, Moneybagg Yo, G Herbo, Lil Durk, Kodak Black, Kevin Gates, Lil Wayne, Lil Baby, Rick Ross, Young Thug, and numerous other rappers.
In 2021, Choppa appeared on 50 Cent's "Part of the Game," which served as the theme song for the television series "Power Book III: Raising Kanan."
The breadth of those collaborations has allowed Choppa to work with both artists from his own generation and established rappers who were successful long before his career began.
NLE Entertainment and Other Ventures
Choppa has released much of his music under the NLE Entertainment banner in partnership with Warner Records. Maintaining his own imprint has given him a greater degree of branding and business control than simply functioning as an artist signed directly to a major-label roster.
His activities outside recorded music have included merchandise, fashion collaborations, film projects, wellness initiatives, and food. His public interest in plant-based eating eventually extended into a vegan food-truck concept called "This Can't Be Vegan."
Choppa has also promoted literacy among children through reading initiatives and school visits, using his large social-media following to encourage young fans to read.
Personal Life
NLE Choppa has two children. His daughter, Clover Brylie Potts, was born in June 2020.
Choppa and his former partner Marissa Da'Nae later experienced the miscarriage of a son. They subsequently welcomed a son, ChoZen Wone Da'Shun Potts, in August 2023.
Choppa has spoken frequently about the effect fatherhood has had on him, describing his children as a major source of motivation and personal growth.
