Early Life

JoJo Simmons was born Joseph Ward Simmons Jr. on September 29, 1989, in New York. He is the son of Rev Run and Valerie Vaughn. His parents also had daughters Vanessa and Angela before divorcing in 1992. His father later married Justine Simmons, giving JoJo younger half-siblings Diggy, Russell "Russy" Simmons II, Victoria Anne Simmons, and adopted sister Miley Simmons. Victoria died shortly after birth in 2006.

JoJo grew up in a family deeply connected to hip-hop, television, business, fashion, and entertainment. His father helped pioneer rap as a member of Run-D.M.C., while his uncle Russell Simmons became one of the most important executives in the business through Def Jam and related ventures.

"Run's House"

Primary Income Streams & Multi-Million Contracts

JoJo became known to television audiences in 2005 when "Run's House" premiered on MTV. The series followed Rev Run, Justine, and the Simmons children inside their Saddle River, New Jersey, home. JoJo's storylines often centered on growing up, school, family expectations, and his desire to build a music career of his own.

The show ran for six seasons and helped make the Simmons children public figures. Unlike many celebrity-family reality shows, "Run's House" was remembered for its warmer tone, with Rev Run's parenting, faith, and family lessons serving as a major part of the format.

Music Career

JoJo pursued music under the name JoJo Simmons. He was part of the rap group Team Blackout, which also included Zach "Z2" Spencer and Reggie "Regg" Lewis. The group appeared during the "Run's House" era and released music while JoJo was still trying to establish himself outside his father's legacy.

As a solo artist, JoJo released songs and videos independently and continued to identify as a rapper and performer. While his music career never reached the mainstream scale of Run-D.M.C. or the early chart success of his brother Diggy, it remained an important part of his public identity.

"Growing Up Hip Hop"

Wealth Trajectory & Future Earnings Projections

JoJo later returned to reality television through the WE tv franchise "Growing Up Hip Hop." The series follows the adult children of hip-hop legends as they navigate careers, relationships, and famous family names. JoJo appeared as part of the broader Simmons family storyline and eventually became a recurring figure on the show.

He also joined "Growing Up Hip Hop: New York," which focused on the children of East Coast hip-hop figures. The series gave JoJo a more adult reality-TV platform and featured his relationship with Tanice Amira, who also appeared in the franchise.

Personal Life

JoJo Simmons married Tanice Amira in 2019. The couple has children together and has shared parts of their relationship and family life on television. JoJo's adult public image has centered less on chasing fame and more on fatherhood, marriage, music, and maintaining his place within the Simmons family legacy.

Through reality television, music, and family media, JoJo Simmons has remained a recognizable figure in hip-hop culture, especially for fans who grew up watching "Run's House" and later followed the Simmons family into "Growing Up Hip Hop."
