Early Life
Peter John "Jack" Wagner was born on October 3, 1959, in Washington, Missouri. He grew up in the Midwest and displayed an early talent for both sports and performing. After high school, Wagner attended the University of Missouri for a year before transferring to the University of Arizona, where he earned a degree in drama. His training there laid the foundation for a career in acting and singing that would soon take off.
Breakthrough on "General Hospital"
Wagner's big break came in 1983 when he was cast as Frisco Jones on "General Hospital." Frisco, a singer who becomes an undercover agent, quickly became one of the soap's most popular characters. In parallel with his soap opera fame, Wagner launched a music career. His debut album, "All I Need," was released in 1984, and its title track became a smash hit. The single reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, making him one of the few soap actors to successfully cross over into the pop charts.
He went on to release several more albums, including "Lighting Up the Night" (1985), "Don't Give Up Your Day Job" (1987), and "Alone in a Crowd" (1993).
