Biography & Early Wealth Journey
Gudda Gudda is best known for his long association with Lil Wayne and as one of the earliest members of Young Money Entertainment. Long before Young Money became home to Drake and Nicki Minaj, Gudda and Wayne were teenage friends and members of the New Orleans rap collective Sqad Up. He remained in Wayne's orbit as Young Money developed into a major record label and became one of the original artists on its roster.
Gudda achieved his greatest mainstream exposure as part of the Young Money collective. He appeared throughout the 2009 album "We Are Young Money," including on the hit singles "Every Girl" and "BedRock." His verse on "BedRock," including the infamous "grocery bag" punchline, became his most widely recognized performance. Beyond Young Money's group releases, Gudda developed an extensive mixtape catalog through his "Guddaville" series and collaborated frequently with Wayne, Lil Flip, Waka Flocka Flame, Tyga, and other rappers. Although he never developed the mainstream solo career enjoyed by Young Money's biggest stars, he has remained closely associated with Wayne and the label for much of his career.
Early Life and Sqad Up
Gudda Gudda was born Carl Lilly Jr. on March 11, 1983. Although some biographies list New Orleans as his birthplace, he was born in California and raised in New Orleans, where he became deeply connected to the city's hip-hop scene.
Primary Income Streams & Multi-Million Contracts
Gudda became friends with Lil Wayne when they were teenagers. His original nickname was Jay Gudda, which evolved into the stage name Gudda Gudda.
Before Young Money existed, Gudda and Wayne were members of Sqad Up, a New Orleans rap collective that also included Kidd Kidd, T-Streets, Raw Dizzy, and several other artists. During the early 2000s, Sqad Up developed an underground following through a prolific series of mixtapes.
The group existed alongside Wayne's career with Cash Money Records, the New Orleans label co-founded by Birdman. Sqad Up ultimately split apart, but Gudda's friendship and musical relationship with Wayne survived the group's breakup.

Young Money
When Lil Wayne began building Young Money Entertainment, Gudda became one of the label's earliest artists. He was part of the roster before Young Money developed into the powerhouse that eventually launched the careers of Drake, Nicki Minaj, and several other commercially successful performers.
Gudda appeared prominently on Young Money's 2009 compilation album "We Are Young Money." He performed on eight tracks, including the singles "Every Girl" and "BedRock." Both became major commercial hits.
Wealth Trajectory & Future Earnings Projections
"BedRock" provided Gudda with the most recognizable moment of his career. He later acknowledged that the song was the biggest record he had ever appeared on commercially and generated more money for him than any other song up to that point.
Although the line from his verse became something of a hip-hop punchline, Gudda has repeatedly emphasized that his career extends far beyond one "BedRock" verse.
Guddaville and Solo Projects
Gudda launched his "Guddaville" mixtape series in 2009. The first installment featured appearances from Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, Lil Twist, Jae Millz, Shanell, and Mack Maine, among others.
He followed it with "Back 2 Guddaville" in 2010 and "Guddaville 3" in 2012. Gudda has described his solo music as New Orleans street hip-hop, distinguishing it from the more commercial styles of several of his Young Money labelmates.
Gudda also recorded extensively outside his own mixtapes. He appeared on Lil Wayne's "I Am Not a Human Being," "Sorry 4 the Wait," and "I Am Not a Human Being II," including a notable appearance on the song "Gunwalk."
In 2009, he collaborated with rapper Lil Flip on the album "Certified." Gudda's other collaborations have included music with Waka Flocka Flame, Trae tha Truth, Tyga, Birdman, Bow Wow, and numerous artists connected to Young Money and Cash Money.
Later Career
Gudda continued recording with Wayne well after Young Money's initial late-2000s peak. In 2016, he appeared on Wayne's song "Grateful," which attracted attention because Wayne used the track to address his deteriorating relationship with Birdman and Cash Money.
He later appeared with Wayne and HoodyBaby on "NFL." Gudda has also continued releasing independent music and revisiting the Sqad Up and early Young Money eras in interviews.
Unlike Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga, Gudda never transformed his Young Money exposure into a major solo pop career. His significance within the label instead comes from his longevity, his friendship and creative partnership with Lil Wayne, and his status as one of the artists who was present before Young Money became one of the defining hip-hop labels of its era.
