Gina Lynn was born Tanya Mercado on February 15, 1974 in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.
Lynn's adult entertainment career started as a dancer in a strip club in New Jersey called Al's Diamond Cabaret, a club where La Toya Jackson had previously appeared. She made her adult film debut in 2001 as a contract girl with Pleasure Productions. She continued to make movies for the company, as well as for her own studio, Gina Lynn Productions. Lynn also directs and has over 20 productions to her credit.

Gina made an appearance in Eminem's "Superman" music video as well as Vinnie Paz's "Keep Movin' On" music video. She was an extra in the feature movies "Analyze That" and "Minghags." She had an uncredited role as a stripper in a 2004 episode of the HBO series "The Sopranos."
In recent years, she also appeared in several romantic comedies and other mainstream crossover roles, such as her role in "Mancation" (2012) with Joey Fatone, "Calvin's Dream" (2011), "Rap Sucks" (2011), "Booley" (2010) and "Still a Teen Movie." Lynn appeared in four episodes of the WE network reality series "Secret Lives of Women."
