Biography & Early Wealth Journey
Gigi Hadid became one of the defining supermodels of her generation after breaking into high fashion in the mid-2010s. She has walked for Chanel, Versace, Marc Jacobs, Balmain, Fendi, Miu Miu, Michael Kors, Moschino, and dozens of other major fashion houses, while appearing on international editions of Vogue and fronting major advertising campaigns for brands including Maybelline, Tommy Hilfiger, BMW, Reebok, Versace, and Stuart Weitzman.
In a typical year, Gigi makes $9-10 million thanks to contracts with companies with Maybelline, Evian, BMW, Versace, and Tommy Hilfiger. Her career has increasingly expanded beyond traditional modeling. She co-designed four TommyXGigi collections for Tommy Hilfiger, served as a host and judge on Netflix's "Next in Fashion," and in 2022 launched the luxury cashmere brand Guest in Residence, where she serves as founder and creative director. Hadid has remained a major runway and editorial presence while building a second career as a fashion entrepreneur.
Modeling Earnings
Gigi's modeling success quickly translated into multimillion-dollar annual earnings. In 2016, Forbes estimated that she earned $10 million, placing her among the highest-paid models in the world. Forbes estimated another $9.5 million in both 2017 and 2018.
Primary Income Streams & Multi-Million Contracts
Those earnings came from a combination of runway work, advertising campaigns, beauty contracts, fashion collaborations, and endorsement deals. Hadid's enormous social-media following also made her particularly valuable to companies seeking younger consumers.
Among her most important commercial relationships was Maybelline, which signed Hadid as a spokesperson in 2015. She also worked extensively with Tommy Hilfiger, eventually becoming the global ambassador for the company's womenswear business and co-designing multiple TommyXGigi collections.
Her other major advertising and endorsement relationships have included Versace, Fendi, Stuart Weitzman, Reebok, BMW, Evian, Vogue Eyewear, Messika, Max Mara, and numerous additional luxury and consumer brands.

Real Estate, Luxury Assets & Personal Investments
Jelena Noura Hadid was born on April 23, 1995, in Los Angeles, California. Her mother is former model and "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" personality Yolanda Hadid. Her father, Mohamed Hadid, built a career as a luxury real estate developer.
Mohamed developed hotels and extravagant residential properties, particularly in Southern California. In late 2019, one of his companies filed for bankruptcy amid the long-running legal battle surrounding an enormous Bel Air mansion that authorities had ordered demolished.
Gigi grew up primarily in Southern California alongside her younger siblings, Bella Hadid and Anwar Hadid, both of whom later became professional models. She attended Malibu High School, where she played volleyball and competed in horseback riding.
Hadid graduated in 2013 and moved to New York City. She enrolled at The New School to study criminal psychology but eventually put her education on hold as modeling opportunities accelerated.
Wealth Trajectory & Future Earnings Projections
Gigi's parents divorced when she was a child. According to divorce documents, Mohamed's settlement with Yolanda included a $6 million Malibu home, a Santa Barbara property, several vehicles, $30,000 per month in child support, and a $3.6 million cash payment. Yolanda later married music producer David Foster in 2011. They separated in 2015 and finalized their divorce in 2017.

Baby Guess and Early Modeling
Hadid's modeling career technically began before she was old enough to remember it. Guess co-founder Paul Marciano discovered her when she was two years old, leading to work for Baby Guess and Guess Kids.
Her parents eventually pulled her out of modeling so she could have a more conventional childhood and concentrate on school. Hadid returned to the business as a teenager and began working with Guess again in 2011.
By 2012, she was the face of a Guess campaign. The relationship proved important because it gave Hadid professional experience and substantial exposure before she entered the high-fashion world.
After moving to New York, she signed with IMG Models in 2013, setting the stage for a remarkably rapid rise.
High-Fashion Breakthrough
Hadid made her New York Fashion Week debut in February 2014, walking in Desigual's runway show. That same month, she appeared on the cover of Carine Roitfeld's CR Fashion Book, a significant endorsement from one of fashion's most influential editors.
Her career quickly accelerated. Hadid appeared in Tom Ford campaigns for clothing, eyewear, fragrance, and beauty products and began walking for increasingly prestigious designers.
By 2015, she was appearing on runways for Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Michael Kors, Jean Paul Gaultier, Max Mara, Balmain, and other major labels. She also signed one of the biggest contracts of her young career when Maybelline named her a global spokesperson at age 19.
Hadid belonged to a new generation of models whose fame was amplified by social media. Along with Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne, and her sister Bella, Gigi became part of a group of models who were celebrities far beyond the traditional fashion audience.
Runway and Magazine Success
During the second half of the 2010s, Hadid became a fixture at fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. Her runway résumé came to include Versace, Fendi, Chanel, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Moschino, Isabel Marant, Giambattista Valli, Anna Sui, Diane von Furstenberg, Tommy Hilfiger, Jeremy Scott, Missoni, and Balmain.
She also became one of the most prolific magazine-cover models of her generation. Hadid has appeared on numerous international editions of Vogue, including the American, British, French, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Australian, German, Brazilian, Spanish, and Dutch editions. She has also appeared on covers of Harper's Bazaar, Allure, Elle, Numéro, Dazed, Teen Vogue, V Magazine, and other major publications.
Hadid's work was recognized with several industry awards. The British Fashion Council named her International Model of the Year at the 2016 Fashion Awards, an honor that reflected how quickly she had risen from newcomer to one of the world's most recognizable models.
Victoria's Secret
Hadid made her Victoria's Secret Fashion Show debut in 2015. The booking represented another major milestone, as the annual televised event remained one of modeling's most visible platforms at the time.
She returned to the runway for the 2016 and 2018 editions of the show. Her sister Bella also became a Victoria's Secret model, making the Hadids one of fashion's best-known sibling pairings.
After Victoria's Secret discontinued its traditional fashion show for several years, the company revived the event in a new format. Gigi returned to the Victoria's Secret runway in 2024 and again appeared in the 2025 show, where she and Bella both walked.
Tommy Hilfiger and Fashion Collaborations
One of the most significant commercial partnerships of Hadid's modeling career was her relationship with Tommy Hilfiger. In 2016, the company named her a global brand ambassador and launched the first TommyXGigi collection.
Rather than merely serving as the face of the campaign, Hadid participated in designing the collection with Hilfiger's team. The partnership coincided with Tommy Hilfiger's push toward "see now, buy now" fashion shows, in which customers could purchase runway pieces immediately rather than waiting months for a conventional retail release.
The relationship ultimately produced four TommyXGigi capsule collections between 2016 and 2018. Tommy Hilfiger's parent company, PVH, later described the partnership as successful and said it helped create momentum for the company's global womenswear business.
Hadid also designed footwear with Stuart Weitzman and collaborated with Vogue Eyewear, Messika, Reebok, and other companies. These projects gave her experience in product development years before she launched her own fashion company.

Guest in Residence
In 2022, Hadid moved beyond endorsement deals and collaborations by launching her own fashion label, Guest in Residence. The company initially focused on colorful, luxury cashmere basics and knitwear.
Hadid founded the brand and serves as its creative director. She has said the idea was partly inspired by cashmere pieces her parents gave her when she first moved to New York. Because the garments lasted for years and accumulated sentimental value, she wanted Guest in Residence to emphasize clothing that could be worn repeatedly rather than treated as disposable fashion.
Hadid spent several years developing the concept before launching the company. Motherhood also influenced her decision to build a business outside modeling, giving her a professional role that did not depend entirely on being in front of a camera or constantly traveling.
Guest in Residence began as a direct-to-consumer company and expanded into wholesale distribution and physical retail. In 2023, the company opened its first permanent flagship store on Bond Street in New York City's NoHo neighborhood.
The brand subsequently released additional seasonal collections and collaborations. By 2026, Guest in Residence had begun expanding beyond the cashmere category that established it, including a move into denim. The business represents Hadid's most significant attempt to turn her fashion-industry experience and celebrity into a company of her own.
"Next in Fashion" and Other Projects
Hadid has occasionally worked outside traditional modeling. She appeared in music videos, including Calvin Harris' "How Deep Is Your Love" and former boyfriend Cody Simpson's "Surfboard" and "Flower."
She has also worked behind the camera. Hadid photographed the Versus Versace Spring/Summer 2017 advertising campaign and created "Gigi's Journal," a special edition of V Magazine built around Polaroid photography she shot herself.
In 2023, Hadid joined Tan France as co-host and judge of the second season of Netflix's fashion competition "Next in Fashion." Twelve designers competed for a $200,000 prize and an opportunity to launch a collection through Rent the Runway. The show gave Hadid a much larger television role than the occasional appearances she had made earlier in her career.
Hadid has expressed interest in doing more acting but has said she is selective about the kinds of roles she would pursue rather than simply playing conventional model or girlfriend characters.
Continued Modeling Success
Motherhood and the creation of Guest in Residence reduced Hadid's reliance on the relentless fashion-week schedule that defined her early career, but she remained a significant modeling presence.
In 2025, Hadid appeared on multiple Vogue covers, including an October American Vogue cover alongside Kendall Jenner. The accompanying feature reflected on the pair's parallel rise from young models into two of the most famous figures of their generation.
Hadid continued taking selected major runway jobs as well. In 2026, she returned to Paris couture week after several years away and walked in Balenciaga's couture show.
Her ability to remain relevant while working less continuously on the runway reflects a broader transition in her career: modeling remains an important source of income and visibility, but Guest in Residence, television, and other creative projects have given her professional options that do not depend solely on booking modeling jobs.

Copyright Lawsuits
Hadid has been involved in several disputes over photographs of herself that she reposted on social media.
In 2017, photographer Peter Cepeda sued Hadid and IMG after she posted one of his photographs to her Instagram and Twitter accounts. Cepeda alleged that Hadid had used the photograph without permission and removed the photographer's identifying information. The case was eventually settled outside of court.
In January 2019, photo agency Xclusive-Lee filed another copyright lawsuit after Hadid posted a photograph of herself that the agency claimed it owned. Hadid sought dismissal, and a federal judge granted her motion in July 2019 because the plaintiff had not obtained a copyright registration for the photograph before filing the lawsuit.
The cases became notable examples of the legal tension between celebrities who share paparazzi images of themselves on social media and photographers who own the copyrights to those images.
2017 Victoria's Secret Controversy
In 2017, Bella Hadid posted a video showing Gigi holding a Buddha-shaped cookie while narrowing her eyes. The clip drew accusations that Gigi was mocking Asian facial features, and she subsequently apologized.
Later that year, Hadid announced that she would not participate in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai despite previously being announced as part of the lineup. Neither Hadid nor Victoria's Secret publicly confirmed that the earlier controversy caused her absence, although the connection was widely speculated upon at the time.
Cayman Islands Arrest
In July 2023, Hadid and a friend were detained after arriving by private aircraft in the Cayman Islands. Customs officers found a small quantity of marijuana and related paraphernalia in their luggage.
Hadid pleaded guilty to importing a controlled drug and drug utensil and was fined 1,000 Cayman Islands dollars plus costs. No conviction was recorded.
Her representative said that Hadid had legally purchased the marijuana in New York with a medical license. Medical marijuana was legal in the Cayman Islands, but bringing cannabis into the territory remained illegal.
Personal Life
Hadid dated Australian singer Cody Simpson on and off from 2013 through 2015. The relationship received substantial media attention as both were becoming increasingly famous.
In late 2015, she began dating former One Direction singer Zayn Malik. Hadid appeared in Malik's music video for "Pillowtalk," and the couple appeared together on the August 2017 cover of American Vogue.
Their relationship was repeatedly interrupted by breakups and reconciliations. In 2020, Hadid became pregnant with their first child. She gave birth to their daughter, Khai, in September of that year.
Hadid and Malik separated in 2021 following an incident involving Malik and Gigi's mother, Yolanda. Malik pleaded no contest to four summary harassment charges stemming from the confrontation. Court records accused him of harassing both Gigi and Yolanda and of shoving Yolanda during the argument. Malik denied striking her.
Despite their breakup, Hadid and Malik have continued sharing parenting responsibilities for Khai. Both have generally sought to keep their daughter's face and private life out of the public spotlight.
Bradley Cooper
Hadid began dating actor and filmmaker Bradley Cooper in 2023. The relationship initially remained relatively private, although the pair were increasingly photographed together in New York and while traveling.
Hadid publicly referred to Cooper as her boyfriend in subsequent interviews. Both entered the relationship as parents: Hadid shares Khai with Zayn Malik, while Cooper shares a daughter with model Irina Shayk.
The couple have generally avoided extensively discussing their relationship publicly while appearing together with increasing frequency at dinners, events, and fashion-related occasions.
Real Estate
In 2015, Gigi paid approximately $4 million for a two-bedroom condo in a luxury building in New York City's NoHo neighborhood.
Three years later, she expanded her footprint in the same building, paying approximately $5.8 million for a three-bedroom duplex. The second property brought her total investment in the building to nearly $10 million.
In 2020, Hadid submitted renovation plans that would connect the two properties and effectively create one large multilevel residence.
Her New York real estate also places her close to her professional interests. Guest in Residence later opened its flagship store in the same NoHo neighborhood, making the area a center of both Hadid's personal and business life.
