Biography & Early Wealth Journey

Erica Campbell is best known as one half of the Grammy-winning gospel duo Mary Mary alongside her younger sister, Tina Campbell. Beginning with the enormous crossover success of "Shackles (Praise You)" in 2000, Mary Mary helped bring contemporary gospel into mainstream pop and R&B, eventually selling millions of albums and becoming one of the most successful gospel acts of their generation.

Erica subsequently established a substantial career independent of the duo. Her 2014 solo debut, "Help," reached #1 on the gospel chart and won the Grammy for Best Gospel Album. She later became the host of the nationally syndicated radio program "Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell," expanded into acting and television production, and continued releasing gospel music. Across her performing and songwriting credits, the Recording Academy has credited Campbell with six Grammy wins and 18 nominations.

Early Life

Erica Monique Atkins was born on April 29, 1972, in Inglewood, California. She grew up in a large, deeply religious and musical family. Her father was a minister, while her mother was a choir director.

Primary Income Streams & Multi-Million Contracts

Erica and Tina began singing in church as children. Erica developed an especially strong interest in becoming a professional vocalist and later studied classical voice at El Camino College. During the 1990s, the sisters performed in gospel productions and worked as background singers, including work connected to Brandy.

Their songwriting also began attracting attention. Erica and Tina secured a publishing deal with EMI and contributed music to film soundtracks before establishing themselves as recording artists.

Mary Mary

Erica and Tina formed Mary Mary in the late 1990s and signed with Columbia Records. Their debut single, "Shackles (Praise You)," became a rare gospel record capable of crossing over to mainstream radio and international pop charts.

Real Estate, Luxury Assets & Personal Investments

Mary Mary's debut album, "Thankful," was released in 2000. It topped the gospel albums chart, eventually earned double-platinum certification in the United States, and won a Grammy Award. Their second album, "Incredible," arrived in 2002 and reached #20 on the Billboard 200.

The sisters returned in 2005 with "Mary Mary," which climbed to #8 on the Billboard 200 and generated major gospel hits including "Heaven" and "Yesterday." Subsequent releases included "A Mary Mary Christmas," "The Sound," "Something Big," and "Go Get It."

"The Sound" produced "Get Up," which earned another Grammy, while Erica, Tina, and Warryn Campbell won the Grammy for Best Gospel Song for writing "Go Get It."

Mary Mary went on to sell more than six million albums and became one of contemporary gospel's defining acts.

Solo Career

Erica began pursuing a solo career while Mary Mary remained active. Her early solo single "A Little More Jesus" received a Grammy nomination and helped establish that she could succeed independently of the duo.

Her debut solo album, "Help," was released in 2014. It debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart and reached #6 on the Billboard 200. The album featured rapper Lecrae on its title track and won the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album.

Campbell followed it with "Help 2.0" in 2015, which included "I Luh God," a gospel track incorporating trap and hip-hop influences.

After a lengthy gap between full-length releases, Campbell released "I Love You" in 2023. The album earned a Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Album, while "Feel Alright (Blessed)" was nominated for Best Gospel Performance/Song.

In 2025, Campbell added another Grammy to her résumé as one of the performers on "One Hallelujah" alongside Israel Houghton, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Jonathan McReynolds, and Jekalyn Carr.

Radio Career

One of the most important chapters of Erica's career began in 2016 when Reach Media launched "Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell."

The nationally syndicated weekday program combines gospel music, interviews, humor, news, faith, and motivational discussions. Campbell has hosted the four-hour morning show for more than a decade, giving her an unusually stable media career outside the recording industry.

Her radio work earned significant industry recognition when Campbell won the 2024 Marconi Award for Network/Syndicated Personality of the Year.

Television and Acting

Erica and Tina starred on the WE tv reality series "Mary Mary" from 2012 through 2017. The series followed their families, recording careers, touring, management disputes, and increasingly separate professional lives.

Erica and Warryn subsequently starred with their children in the 2018 TV One reality series "We're the Campbells."

Campbell has also expanded into acting. In 2026, she took a leading dramatic role in the Lifetime movie "Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery," portraying a prominent Christian figure whose marriage and public reputation are threatened by an affair and blackmail.

Mary Mary Royalties

Despite Mary Mary's multi-platinum success, Erica has revealed that the group's record sales did not necessarily translate into traditional artist royalties.

In 2026, Campbell said on "Get Up! Mornings" that she and Tina had never received a royalty check from Mary Mary's recording career despite selling millions of records.

That does not mean the sisters earned nothing from Mary Mary. Recording royalties are separate from advances, touring income, appearance fees, songwriting royalties, and publishing income. Erica has writing credits on numerous Mary Mary songs, and she and Tina had publishing arrangements dating back to before the group's breakthrough.

The disclosure nevertheless offers an important glimpse into the economics behind one of gospel music's biggest acts and illustrates how record sales can significantly overstate the amount of money ultimately received by performers.

Personal Life

Erica married producer, songwriter, record executive, and pastor Warryn Campbell in 2001. Warryn has produced music for artists across gospel and R&B and founded the My Block record label. The couple has three children: Krista, Warryn III, and Zaya.

The shared Campbell surname between Erica and Tina has caused occasional confusion. Tina married drummer Teddy Campbell, while Erica married Warryn Campbell. Warryn and Teddy are not related; the sisters simply happened to marry two men with the same surname.

Erica and Warryn have also been involved with the California Worship Center in Los Angeles, where Warryn has served as pastor.

Real Estate

In February 2005, Erica and Warryn Campbell paid $1.1 million for a home in Los Angeles. The roughly 4,300-square-foot property contains six bedrooms and four bathrooms. Public property records have continued to list the Campbells as the owners.

The long-held property represents one of the clearest publicly documented assets associated with Erica after more than two decades of success in gospel music, television, radio, and songwriting.
