Biography & Early Wealth Journey

Procter began acting professionally in the 1990s, appearing in films including "Leaving Las Vegas," "Jerry Maguire," "Guinevere," and "Body Shots," along with guest appearances on "Friends," "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," and "Just Shoot Me!" After "CSI: Miami" ended, she appeared on "White Collar" and in the film "Love Everlasting." In more recent years, Procter has largely shifted her attention away from acting and toward philanthropy and community work. In 2019, she founded Ground Breakers Inc., a nonprofit focused on social-emotional learning, conflict resolution, and creating opportunities for underserved communities. She has also long had an interest in interior design and has owned and renovated several homes in Southern California.

Early Life

Emily Procter was born on October 8, 1968. She was adopted as an infant by William Procter, a general practitioner, and Barbara Jones, a volunteer worker, and was raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her older brother, Whit, was also adopted. Her parents divorced when Emily was three years old.

Procter attended Ravenscroft School before enrolling at East Carolina University. She studied journalism and dance, joined the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and worked as a television weather anchor at WNCT-TV in Greenville, North Carolina.

Primary Income Streams & Multi-Million Contracts

After college, Procter moved to Los Angeles with the intention of pursuing acting. Her father agreed to help support her while she attended acting school, but she began finding professional work before completing the program.

Early Career

During the 1990s, Procter accumulated a steady collection of film and television roles. She appeared alongside Nicolas Cage in the 1995 drama "Leaving Las Vegas" and that same year played Annabel, one of Joey Tribbiani's brief romantic interests, on "Friends," starring Jennifer Aniston and an ensemble cast.

Her other early television credits included "Renegade," "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," "Early Edition," and "Just Shoot Me!" She also appeared in "The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion!"

Real Estate, Luxury Assets & Personal Investments

On the film side, Procter had a small role in Cameron Crowe's "Jerry Maguire," starring Tom Cruise, and appeared in "Family Plan," "Guinevere," "Body Shots," and the HBO television movie "Breast Men."

The West Wing

Procter's first major television breakthrough came in 2000 when she was cast as Ainsley Hayes on "The West Wing."

Ainsley was a sharp, conservative Republican attorney who unexpectedly joined the Democratic Bartlet administration as an associate White House counsel. Although Procter was never a full-time series regular, the character became a memorable part of the show's ensemble and allowed her to demonstrate a comic and verbal style quite different from her later work on "CSI: Miami."

Wealth Trajectory & Future Earnings Projections

Procter appeared primarily during the show's second and third seasons and returned for an appearance during its final season in 2006.

In 2020, she also participated in "A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote," which reunited members of the cast for a staged presentation of the episode "Hartsfield's Landing."

CSI: Miami

In 2002, Procter was cast as Calleigh Duquesne in "CSI: Miami," the first spinoff of the phenomenally successful "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." Procter's friend and original "CSI" cast member Jorja Fox encouraged her to pursue the spinoff.

Calleigh was a Miami-Dade crime-scene investigator and ballistics expert known for her calm demeanor, intelligence, and Southern background. Procter was credited immediately behind series star David Caruso and remained one of the show's central cast members throughout its run.

"CSI: Miami" debuted in September 2002 and became a major international television success. At various points, it ranked among the most-watched programs not only in the United States but around the world. Its stylized photography, elaborate forensic investigations, and Caruso's Horatio Caine character helped make the series one of CBS's signature dramas of the 2000s.

Procter played Calleigh for all 10 seasons until CBS canceled the series in 2012.

CSI: Miami Salary

Procter's exact salary for "CSI: Miami" was never publicly disclosed in reliable industry reporting.

Her earnings would nevertheless have increased substantially over the course of the show's decade-long run as contracts were renegotiated. She was the show's second-billed performer and one of its longest-serving stars.

For comparison, David Caruso was earning $375,000 per episode by the later years of the series, equivalent to roughly $9 million for a 24-episode season. There is no evidence that Procter earned the same amount, and estimates assigning her a specific six-figure per-episode salary have not been reliably substantiated.

Given her decade of series-regular employment on one of CBS's most successful dramas, "CSI: Miami" was almost certainly the largest source of earnings in Procter's acting career.

Later Career

After "CSI: Miami" ended, Procter deliberately reduced her acting workload while raising her daughter.

In 2013, she returned to television for a two-episode arc on USA Network's "White Collar," playing Amanda Callaway, the newly appointed head of the FBI's New York white-collar division.

She later played Helen in the 2016 romantic drama "Love Everlasting." In 2019, Procter returned to East Carolina University as the keynote speaker for its spring commencement.

Her professional focus subsequently shifted increasingly toward activism and nonprofit work rather than regular film and television acting.

Ground Breakers and Philanthropy

Procter has supported charitable organizations throughout her career, including programs serving homeless populations and the Young Storytellers Program.

In 2019, she founded Ground Breakers Inc., reflecting a broader shift in focus from entertainment toward community work.

Through its programming, Ground Breakers promotes social and emotional learning, healthier personal narratives, peaceful conflict resolution, and equitable opportunities. Its work has included programs involving incarcerated people at Kern Valley State Prison, students in Stockton, California, and partnerships with organizations working with currently and formerly incarcerated people.

Personal Life

Procter has been in a relationship with musician and producer Paul Bryan since 2008. The couple welcomed a daughter, Philippa "Pippa" Frances, in 2010.

Her pregnancy occurred during the ninth season of "CSI: Miami." Because the pregnancy was not incorporated into Calleigh's storyline, the production adjusted Procter's appearances during that period.

Outside of acting, Procter has participated in marathons and triathlons and has played in celebrity poker tournaments. She has also sung with an '80s cover band called Motion.

Another longtime passion is interior design. Procter has decorated her own homes and has worked informally on homes for friends and fellow celebrities, including country singer Kenny Chesney. During the 2007-08 writers' strike, she spent some of her hiatus helping design a friend's home in St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Real Estate

Procter's interest in interior design has extended to her own real estate investments.

In December 2001, she paid approximately $475,000 for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom Los Angeles home measuring around 1,300 square feet. She sold the property in October 2005 for $1.199 million.

She subsequently owned a much larger home in Santa Monica. In 2015, Procter listed the Mediterranean-style property for $3.995 million. The approximately 4,460-square-foot home featured five bedrooms, four bathrooms, cathedral ceilings, a den, an office, French doors, a swimming pool and spa, and a portion of the garage that had been converted into a music studio. Procter had extensively decorated the property herself.

In later years, Procter lived in Pacific Palisades with her family. Tragically, that home was destroyed during the Palisades Fire in January 2025. After evacuating, Procter spoke publicly about the loss of both her house and the close-knit community surrounding it. She later returned to the site and documented the destruction.
