Biography & Early Wealth Journey

Pratt's career entered another stratosphere in 2014 when he starred as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy." A year later, he played velociraptor trainer Owen Grady in "Jurassic World," which grossed more than $1.6 billion worldwide. Those two franchises transformed Pratt into one of Hollywood's most recognizable and highly paid leading men. He went on to appear in multiple Marvel films, three "Jurassic World" movies, "Passengers," "The Magnificent Seven," "The Tomorrow War," and the Amazon series "The Terminal List."

Pratt has also developed a lucrative voice-acting career. He voiced Emmet in "The LEGO Movie" franchise, Mario in "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," and the title character in "The Garfield Movie." His other later credits include "The Electric State" and the sci-fi thriller "Mercy."

At his peak, Pratt has earned eight figures per film and tens of millions of dollars during particularly busy years. Between June 2016 and June 2017 alone, he earned an estimated $18 million.

Early Life

Primary Income Streams & Multi-Million Contracts

Christopher Michael Pratt was born on June 21, 1979, in Virginia, Minnesota. He is the youngest child of Kathleen and Daniel Pratt. When Chris was seven, his family moved to Lake Stevens, Washington.

Pratt attended Lake Stevens High School, where he competed on the wrestling team and placed fifth in a state tournament. He graduated in 1997 and briefly attended community college before dropping out after one semester.

After leaving school, Pratt bounced between jobs, including working as a discount ticket salesman. He eventually moved to Maui, Hawaii, where he spent a period essentially homeless, sleeping in a van and a tent on the beach. He also worked with the Christian missionary organization Jews for Jesus.

While waiting tables at a Bubba Gump Shrimp Company restaurant in Maui, Pratt met actress and director Rae Dawn Chong. Chong cast him in her short horror film "Cursed Part 3," giving Pratt his first significant opportunity in acting.

Early Acting Career

Pratt's first major television role came in 2002 when he was cast as Bright Abbott on the WB drama "Everwood." He remained with the series until its cancellation in 2006.

Wealth Trajectory & Future Earnings Projections

He subsequently joined "The O.C." for its fourth and final season, playing activist Winchester "Ché" Cook. During this period, Pratt continued picking up smaller film and television roles while trying to establish himself as a working actor.

His movie career began gathering momentum in the early 2010s. He appeared in "Take Me Home Tonight," "Moneyball," "The Five-Year Engagement," and "Zero Dark Thirty." He also appeared in Spike Jonze's "Her." Although most of these were supporting roles, they demonstrated that Pratt could move comfortably between broad comedy and drama.

"Parks and Recreation"

Pratt's breakthrough role came in 2009 when he joined the cast of NBC's "Parks and Recreation" as Andy Dwyer. The character was originally intended to be temporary, but Pratt's performance proved so popular that he was promoted to series regular.

Andy evolved from an irresponsible slacker into one of the show's most beloved characters. Pratt's improvisational skills and physical comedy became a major part of the series, and the role significantly raised his profile within Hollywood.

"Parks and Recreation" ran for seven seasons from 2009 to 2015. Pratt received a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" and Marvel

Pratt's transformation into a movie star began when Marvel cast him as Peter Quill, better known as Star-Lord, in 2014's "Guardians of the Galaxy." For the role, Pratt underwent a major physical transformation and shed the deliberately heavier physique he had maintained while playing Andy on "Parks and Recreation."

"Guardians of the Galaxy" became a blockbuster, earning more than $700 million worldwide and establishing Pratt as an international leading man. The film paired him with a cast that included Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper.

Pratt returned as Star-Lord in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," "Avengers: Infinity War," "Avengers: Endgame," "Thor: Love and Thunder," "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special," and 2023's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."

His Marvel appearances put Pratt at the center of several of the highest-grossing movies in cinema history and helped make Star-Lord one of his defining roles.

"Jurassic World"

One year after "Guardians of the Galaxy," Pratt launched a second blockbuster franchise when he starred opposite Bryce Dallas Howard in 2015's "Jurassic World."

Pratt played Owen Grady, an animal behaviorist and former Navy serviceman who trains Velociraptors at the rebuilt Jurassic World theme park. The film became a worldwide phenomenon, grossing more than $1.6 billion and ranking among the highest-grossing films ever released at the time.

Pratt returned for 2018's "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" and completed the trilogy with 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion."

His simultaneous involvement in the Marvel and "Jurassic World" franchises cemented his position as one of Hollywood's most commercially successful stars of the 2010s and early 2020s.

Other Films and "The Terminal List"

Outside his two biggest franchises, Pratt starred alongside Denzel Washington in the 2016 Western "The Magnificent Seven." That same year, he starred opposite Jennifer Lawrence in the science-fiction romance "Passengers."

Pratt later starred in and executive produced the 2021 science-fiction action film "The Tomorrow War." In 2022, he expanded further into television by starring as Navy SEAL James Reece in Amazon Prime Video's "The Terminal List," on which he also served as an executive producer.

He later starred alongside Millie Bobby Brown in the Russo brothers' science-fiction adventure "The Electric State." In 2026, Pratt starred in "Mercy," a science-fiction thriller in which he played a detective attempting to prove his innocence to an AI judge.

Voice Acting

Voice acting has become another major component of Pratt's career. He voiced Emmet Brickowski in 2014's "The LEGO Movie" and its 2019 sequel, "The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part." He also voiced Barley Lightfoot in Pixar's 2020 fantasy film "Onward."

In 2023, Pratt voiced Mario in "The Super Mario Bros. Movie." The film became a massive global hit, grossing well over $1 billion worldwide. He reprised the character in 2026's "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," which also crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office.

Between those Mario films, Pratt voiced the title character in 2024's "The Garfield Movie."

Salary and Career Earnings

Chris Pratt's salary increased dramatically after the success of "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Jurassic World."

Pratt reportedly earned around $5 million for the first "Jurassic World." His salary doubled to approximately $10 million for 2018's "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom." Reports placed his pay for "Jurassic World Dominion" in the $12 million to $14 million range.

Between June 2016 and June 2017, Chris earned an estimated $18 million from his various endeavors.

Pratt's earnings can vary significantly from year to year depending on the number and size of his film projects. In addition to upfront acting salaries, his work as an executive producer on projects including "The Tomorrow War" and "The Terminal List" has given him additional opportunities to participate financially behind the camera.

Personal Life

Chris Pratt met Anna Faris while filming "Take Me Home Tonight" in 2007. They became engaged in 2008 and married in Bali in July 2009.

Their son, Jack, was born nine weeks premature in August 2012. Pratt and Faris announced their separation in 2017, and their divorce was finalized the following year.

In 2018, Pratt began dating Katherine Schwarzenegger. Her mother is journalist and author Maria Shriver, and her father is actor, businessman, and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Chris and Katherine married in Montecito, California, in June 2019. They welcomed their first daughter, Lyla Maria, in August 2020, followed by their second daughter, Eloise Christina, in May 2022. Their son, Ford Fitzgerald, was born in November 2024.

Real Estate

In 2014, Pratt and Anna Faris paid $3.3 million for a home in the Hollywood Hills. The seller was Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino. The 4,700-square-foot property featured four bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, wood-beamed ceilings, a speakeasy-style wet bar, a steam room, and extensive oak paneling.

Pratt and Faris listed the home for $4.995 million following their separation. They ultimately sold it in September 2020 for $4.75 million.

In 2018, Chris and Katherine acquired a Pacific Palisades property for $15.6 million. They demolished the existing residence and spent several years building a roughly 13,000-square-foot custom mansion. The finished home has six bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms, along with amenities including a movie theater and extensive indoor-outdoor entertaining areas.

In July 2023, they listed the property for $32 million. What followed was an unusually long attempt to find a buyer. The price was reduced to $29.99 million in October 2023 before the property was taken off the market. It briefly returned at $32 million that November and was removed again.

In June 2024, Pratt and Schwarzenegger relisted the mansion for $24.5 million. It came off the market again in October. In August 2025, the house returned with a dramatically reduced asking price of $19.99 million. It was delisted in March 2026 before returning to the market once again in August 2026 at $19.99 million.

Meanwhile, in 2023, Pratt and Schwarzenegger paid $12.5 million for another property in Brentwood, near Maria Shriver's home. They demolished the residence that occupied the parcel, a 1950s midcentury modern house known as the Zimmerman House that had been designed by architect Craig Ellwood, and began construction on another custom home. The demolition drew criticism from architectural preservationists.

While construction on the Brentwood property continued, Pratt and Schwarzenegger spent time living in a Montecito mansion owned by Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom.

Philanthropy

In 2015, Chris Pratt and Anna Faris donated $1 million to provide eyeglasses to disadvantaged children. Their charitable interests were influenced in part by the medical challenges their son Jack faced after being born prematurely. Pratt and Faris also supported the neonatal intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the March of Dimes.

In 2016, Pratt donated $500,000 toward a teen center in his hometown of Lake Stevens, Washington. The facility was named in honor of his father, Dan Pratt, who died in 2014.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Pratt became involved in efforts to combat food insecurity. In 2021, he donated $20,000 toward fighting hunger in South Carolina and $10,000 to the Edmonds Food Bank. He also helped create the "Feed Thy Neighbor" campaign, contributing $100,000 himself and helping raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations providing meals to people in need.
