Brandon Timothy Jackson was born on March 7, 1984, in Detroit, Michigan. He was raised in a religious family. His mother, Beverly Yvonne, is a pastor, and his father, Bishop Wayne T. Jackson, is the senior pastor of Great Faith Ministries International.

Jackson's first major film breakthrough came in "Roll Bounce," the 2005 comedy-drama starring Bow Wow, Chi McBride, Mike Epps, Meagan Good, and Nick Cannon. Jackson played Junior, a performance that helped him stand out from the ensemble and earned him a Black Reel Award for Breakthrough Performance.
In 2008, Jackson appeared in "Tropic Thunder" as Alpa Chino, a rapper-turned-actor starring in the fictional war movie at the center of the film. The role remains one of his best-known performances.
