Unlike many rappers who depend heavily on outside beatmakers, K.R.I.T. produced much of his own early catalog and later produced records for other artists. His studio albums "Live from the Underground" and "Cadillactica" both debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200. After leaving Def Jam in 2016, he launched his own Multi Alumni label and released the critically acclaimed double album "4eva Is a Mighty Long Time," giving him greater control over his music. Early Life
Big K.R.I.T. was born Justin Lewis Scott on August 26, 1986, in Meridian, Mississippi. He developed an interest in music while growing up in the South and learned to produce his own beats partly out of necessity.
Without the money to regularly pay producers, K.R.I.T. began making instrumentals himself. That self-sufficiency eventually became one of the defining features of his career, allowing him to write, rap, and produce substantial portions of his own projects.

He released "Dedicated to Cadalee Biarritz" in 2025 and an expanded edition in 2026. His later releases have continued to come through Multi Alumni, allowing K.R.I.T. to maintain ownership and control that was more difficult to achieve during his major-label years.
