Biography & Early Wealth Journey
Jones followed an unusually circuitous path into entertainment. She studied radiation science and worked in healthcare before moving to Los Angeles to pursue music. She auditioned for several televised music competitions and pursued recording opportunities before reality television dramatically expanded her public profile.
Following "Love & Hip Hop," Jones developed a broader entertainment career that included acting, producing, social media, and entrepreneurship. Her credits have included "I Got the Hook Up 2," "Casting the Net," "For the Love of Jason," and the 2023 romantic comedy "The Comeback," in which she starred opposite Taye Diggs and served as an executive producer. She has also operated the Apryl Wines brand.
Early Life
Apryl Shantell Jones was born on December 15, 1986, in Chicago, Illinois. Before becoming a television personality, she pursued a career far removed from Hollywood. Jones studied radiation science and worked in the healthcare field, including at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Primary Income Streams & Multi-Million Contracts
Music remained an ambition, however. After relocating to Los Angeles, she pursued singing professionally and went through a succession of auditions and group opportunities. Jones tried out for "American Idol," "Making the Band," and "The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll." She was also part of the girl group Cellareign.
Jones has said she arrived in California with only a few thousand dollars, making her transition into entertainment very different from the glamorous lifestyle viewers would later associate with reality television.
Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood
Jones' breakthrough came in 2014 when she joined the inaugural cast of "Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood." The original ensemble also included Ray J, Lil' Fizz, and Moniece Slaughter.

At the beginning of the series, Jones was in a relationship with Omarion and pregnant with their first child. The show chronicled the couple's family life while also following Jones' frustration over trying to establish a musical identity independent of her famous partner.
Jones and Omarion left the program after its second season and separated in 2016. Jones later made a guest appearance during season four before returning as a principal cast member for season six. Her return generated considerable attention because of her relationship with Lil' Fizz, Omarion's former B2K bandmate. The relationship became one of the season's most controversial storylines and created tension with several cast members.

Acting and Business Ventures
After becoming known through unscripted television, Jones increasingly pursued acting. Her credits have included the 2019 comedy "I Got the Hook Up 2," the series "Casting the Net," "For the Love of Jason," "You Married Dat," "Love & Murder: Atlanta Playboy," and other independent film and streaming productions.
One of her more substantial projects was "The Comeback," a 2023 romantic comedy starring Jones and Taye Diggs. Jones played Tisa Murray and was also credited as an executive producer, giving her a role on both the creative and business sides of the production.
Jones has also pursued entrepreneurship. She created Apryl Wines after developing an interest in wine and worked on branding several varieties under her name. Following her breakup with Omarion, she briefly returned to the healthcare profession, working in radiation science at Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital in Los Angeles while raising her children and pursuing business opportunities.
Personal Life
Jones and Omarion share two children, son Megaa and daughter A'mei. Their relationship ended in 2016, and their efforts to navigate co-parenting received considerable public attention in the years that followed.
Jones later dated Lil' Fizz, a relationship that attracted scrutiny because of his history with Omarion. She subsequently had a highly publicized relationship with actor Taye Diggs. Jones and Diggs became known for humorous social-media videos together and appeared publicly as a couple before eventually separating.
Through her reality television career, acting work, businesses, and large social-media following, Jones has managed to build a public identity that extends well beyond the relationship that originally introduced her to television audiences.
